Tall Persons Swindon Railways Village Walk and STEAM museum – Sunday 24th August at 1030hrs
Book tickets for and join other intrepid Tallistas for the every popular "Annual Doo" Sunday Morning guided walk of Swindon Railway Village on Sunday 24nd August at 1030hrs – the walk will last between 60 and 90 minutes – depending on what questions you ask!.
Swindon owes much of its history to the strong presence of the Great Western Railway Company which had locomotive and carriage works and the Company built an entire community with workers houses, leisure and health facilities. Our hosts on this walk are a volunteer led civic group (called Swindon Heritage Preservation) and we will see the time capsule recreation of a residential property in their museum, prior to exploring the Railway Village, the facilities, including access to the Carriage Works, now converted into spectacular commercial office space. Guidance will be offered at the end of the tour, for those who wish to explore the Old Town – and the Wood Street restaurant area, a 25 minute walk away or the Designer Outlet Village and STEAM - the museum of the Great Western Railway about 10 minutes walk away. We are trying to arrange a special guided tour of STEAM for our group, likely timed for early afternoon. More information as we get it!
