It is with sadness that we hear that Matthew Langmaid, the tallest man in Wales and a long-term supporter of the club, died suddenly of a pulmonary embolism on Sunday 17th January. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

I find it hard to think that Matthew has passed away so suddenly. Some one just a couple of years younger than myself and full of life and joy, its just a terrible shame.

It only seems like last week that I met this gentle giant of a man, at Peter Diament's bbq back in the early days of the club in '92. The annual TPC August event will be lacking one of the main men from now on. And its also a sad day for the club, like Lorna say's he was always a vibrant and enthusiastic member of the TPC.

I too would like to offer my heartfelt condolences to Mathew's mum and dad, David and Carolyn Langmaid.

Matthew may you rest in peace ol'mate. You were a giant of a gentleman amongst us tallies.

Rest in peace Matthew, rest in peace.

Andrew

I suppose you could say, he had a head start on his way to that great big Tall Club event in the sky!

Two of my first TPC events and certainly among the more memorable ones, were Matts New Years Eve celebrations; A gang of tallies, in sleeping bags, evenly scattered throughout the Langmaid family home. New Years eve in Cardiff, what a party! Followed by lunch the following day at "The Nine Giants". Fair play to Matt, for continually walking tall & putting on a great show!

Greatly saddened by the news
Matthew was one of the first people that I got to to know in TPC and we first met in Bristol in 1996. I am honoured to have known him. A great friend. He had friends all around the world whose lives he touched.
He will be very much missed by us all.
Thoughts & prayers are with Carolyn & David and his family.

Posted on behalf of Bill and Liz Gunning:

It is with great sadness that we learned of the sad death of Matthew, not only will devoted parents Carolyn and David be devastated, and our heart felt condolences and sympathy goes out to them, but the TPC members will greatly miss the warm and affectionate personality of this Gentle Giant from Cardiff, Wales. Rest in Peace Matthew.

My condolences go out to David and Carolyn at this moment in time.
I still can't believe it.
To me Matthew was a special guy full of warmth, smiles. He always looked on the brightside of life. A shining light for all things Tall. Rest in Peace I amongst many others here at home, across Europe and in the States will miss you greatly.

I still cannot believe you are not with us anymore, taken away so suddenly. I will never forget the first time i saw you at Stockport in 1992, when i turned up at Bredbury Hall and said "Well, I must be in the right place then" You have been my friend since that day and you will always have a special place in my heart. The Annual do in Leicester will be missing someone truly special but dont worry i will make you proud.....Hope you got a very special extra legroom seat on your way up to Heaven.....My condolences to Carolyn and David...You brought such a gorgeous person into our lives, my thoughts are with you at this time. Love Louise

The club has been informed that the post mortem established that Matthew died from a pulmonary embolism caused by a blood clot, rather than a heart attack.

Posted on behalf of former club member Matthew R Palmer:

Matthew showed me around the New York convention and was a regular attendee, In particular the long “talent show” that lasted for hours. That particular year his parents came along who were just as charming as him.

Occasionally he would turn up to the London monthly meeting and plug one of the events he was organising in Wales.

I am sorry to hear of his loss.
